Formula

PV = nRT

Ideal gas law uses R = 8.314 J/(mol·K). Real gases deviate at high pressure or low temperature.

Worked example

1 mol at STP-like conditions (273.15 K, 0.0224 m³) gives P ≈ 101325 Pa (1 atm).

Where this can give the wrong answer

  • Temperature must be in kelvin.
  • Very high P or low T need van der Waals corrections.
  • Volume in m³ — 0.0224 m³ = 22.4 L.

FAQ

0.082057 L·atm/(mol·K) is common in textbooks; this calculator uses SI Pa·m³.
