Formula
total MB = hours/day × MB/hour × days; GB = MB ÷ 1024
Multiply daily streaming or browsing hours by an estimated megabytes-per-hour rate, then scale by the number of days in the billing period.
Worked example
3 hours/day at 500 MB/h is 1.5 GB per day. Over 30 days that's about 43.9 GB (binary) — enough to know if a 40 GB plan will throttle before month-end.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- MB/hour is a rough average — HD vs SD video differs by 3–5×.
- Binary GB (÷1024) differs from carrier decimal GB (÷1000); check your plan's definition.
- Background app updates and OS patches aren't included unless you fold them into MB/hour.
FAQ
- Rough guides: ~300 MB/h SD, ~700 MB/h HD, ~3 GB/h 4K. Pick the quality you actually stream at.
