Formula
weight (kg) = kg/m (by diameter) × length × bar count
Each rebar diameter has a standard mass per metre (derived from πr² × steel density). Multiply by bar length and quantity for total order weight.
Worked example
Twenty 6 m bars of 12 mm rebar at 0.888 kg/m weigh about 106.6 kg total — useful for comparing against a mini-truck payload or dealer minimum order.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- Epoxy-coated or stainless rebar weighs essentially the same as plain carbon steel.
- Cutting waste and lap splices aren't added — extend length or bar count for overlaps.
- Deformed bar nominal diameter is the size stamped on the bar, not caliper measure of ribs.
