Formula
sheets = ceil((L × H ÷ 2.97) × (1 + waste% / 100))
Multiply wall length by height for area, divide by a standard 4×8 ft sheet area (2.97 m²), apply waste for cuts around openings, round up.
Worked example
A 4 m × 2.4 m wall is 9.6 m². At 2.97 m² per sheet that's 4 sheets before waste; with 10% allowance, order 5 sheets.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- Horizontal vs vertical hang changes cut patterns but not total area much.
- 4×12 ft sheets exist — this assumes 4×8; adjust mentally if you buy longer boards.
- Fire-rated or moisture boards are the same area math, different product SKU.
FAQ
- Double the area or run twice — one side is one face of area.
