Formula

split time = (total time ÷ distance) × split distance

Assumes even pacing — equal time per kilometre (or chosen split length).

Worked example

10 km in 52:00 averages 5:12/km, so each 5 km split ≈ 26:00.

Where this can give the wrong answer

  • Hills and tactics make real splits uneven.
  • First km often slower in crowds.
  • Track vs road distance certification differs slightly.
