Formula
Pace (sec/km) = total time (sec) ÷ distance (km); speed (km/h) = distance ÷ time (hours)
Enter how far you ran and how long it took. Pace is average minutes and seconds per kilometre; speed is the equivalent kilometres per hour.
Worked example
Covering 5 km in 25 minutes gives a pace of 5:00 per km and an average speed of 12.0 km/h — a solid recreational 5K effort.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- Distance must be positive and total time must exceed zero — a 0-second entry returns an error even if minutes are set.
- Pace rounds seconds to the nearest whole second per km, so a 5:00.4/km effort may display as 5:00/km.
- This is average pace only — hilly routes, walk breaks, and GPS drift aren't separated from steady effort.
FAQ
- Multiply your pace per km by race distance. At 5:00/km, a 10K finish is about 50 minutes and a half marathon about 1 hour 45 minutes — before adding fatigue fade for longer events.
