Formula

s = ½ g t² ; v = g t

Objects in free fall (no air drag) accelerate at g. Distance fallen grows with t²; speed grows linearly with time.

Worked example

After 3 s of free fall, distance ≈ 44.1 m and speed ≈ 29.4 m/s.

Where this can give the wrong answer

  • Neglects terminal velocity from air — skydivers are not free-fall ideal.
  • Initial velocity assumed zero unless you model separately.
  • Height and time modes are inverses only without drag.
