Objects in free fall (no air drag) accelerate at g. Distance fallen grows with t²; speed grows linearly with time.
Worked example
After 3 s of free fall, distance ≈ 44.1 m and speed ≈ 29.4 m/s.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- Neglects terminal velocity from air — skydivers are not free-fall ideal.
- Initial velocity assumed zero unless you model separately.
- Height and time modes are inverses only without drag.

- In vacuum, no — Galileo's principle. With air, lighter objects may fall slower.
