Formula
new = original × (target ÷ original servings)
Linear scaling multiplies every ingredient by the ratio of desired to original servings. Leavening and spice may need slight tuning at extremes.
Worked example
200 g flour for 4 servings becomes 300 g for 6 — scale factor 1.5.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- Does not auto-adjust baking time — oven time often stays similar.
- Salt and chili may need less than linear scaling.
- Round awkward amounts (0.37 egg) sensibly in practice.
