Formula
factor = (W₁L₁) ÷ (W₂L₂) × depth factor
Recipe amounts scale with pan area when batter depth stays similar. Adjust depth factor if the new tin is deeper or shallower.
Worked example
Moving from 20×30 cm to 23×33 cm multiplies ingredients by about 1.26.
Where this can give the wrong answer
- Extreme shape changes (round to square) are approximate.
- Bake time may need tuning even with correct batter volume.
- Single-layer vs layer cakes differ in stacking logic.
FAQ
- 1.0 if depth matches. If the new pan is 20% deeper, try 1/1.2 ≈ 0.83 for batter volume match.
