savings = original × discount% / 100; sale price = original − savings

The discount percentage is applied to the original sticker price. What's left after subtracting the savings is the price you pay.

A ₹2,999 item at 20% off saves ₹599.80, bringing the sale price to ₹2,399.20 — useful when comparing a flat ₹500 coupon against a percentage banner.

100% off yields a zero sale price; discounts above 100% are blocked.
Stacked discounts (20% then another 10%) aren't chained here — run twice or multiply the remaining factors manually.
Original price should be the pre-discount tag, not an already-reduced shelf price.
