Formula

Target time = local time + (target UTC offset − source UTC offset)

Fixed UTC offsets shift clock time without modelling daylight saving — pick the offset that applies on the date you care about (e.g. UTC+5:30 for India, UTC−5 for US Eastern standard time).

Worked example

09:00 in UTC+5:30 (India) becomes 23:30 on the previous calendar day in UTC−5 (US Eastern) — a 13.5-hour shift crossing the date line in your head is easier with the converted clock shown.

Where this can give the wrong answer

  • Half-hour and quarter-hour offsets (India +5:30, Nepal +5:45) are supported via decimal offset values in the preset list.
  • Daylight saving isn't automatic — US Eastern is UTC−5 in winter but UTC−4 in summer; pick the offset for the specific date manually.
  • Wraparound past midnight is handled — 22:00 plus 4 hours shows 02:00, not an error.

FAQ

City rules change with DST and politics. Fixed offsets are unambiguous for a known instant — pair with a calendar check when scheduling recurring meetings across zones.
