- The length of time to convert. Decimals are fine: 1.5 hours, 2.5 weeks.
- From
- Milliseconds up to years. A year here is 365.25 days, the average of a leap-year cycle, not a calendar year.

Time conversion formula
result = value × (seconds in one 'from' unit ÷ seconds in one 'to' unit)
Time converts through the second: 60 to a minute, 3,600 to an hour, 86,400 to a day, 604,800 to a week. Months are left out because they are not a fixed length — they run from 28 to 31 days. The year here is the 365.25-day Julian year that astronomers use for averages; a calendar year is 365 or 366 days, so for exact dates use the date calculators instead. The page handles anything from milliseconds to years, switches to scientific notation when a figure is very large or very small, and lists your value in every unit at once. A common use is turning minutes into decimal hours for timesheets: 45 minutes is 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75 hours.
Time conversion worked example
90 minutes ÷ 60 = 1.5 hours. For a timesheet, 7 hours 45 minutes is 7 + 45 ÷ 60 = 7.75 hours. A day is 86,400 seconds, and a 365.25-day year 8,766 hours.

A million seconds: 1,000,000 ÷ 86,400 = 11.574074 days — about 11 days and 14 hours.
Two and a half weeks in hours: 2.5 × 168 = 420 h.
The song's 525,600 minutes are exactly 365 days, which is 0.999316 years of 365.25 days — a quarter of a day short.
Where the Time converter can give the wrong answer
- A calendar year is 365 days (8,760 hours) or 366; the 365.25-day year is an average.
- Daylight-saving changes alter the clock, not elapsed time; a 'day' here is always 24 hours.
- Leap seconds are not counted.
