odds = p ÷ (1−p)
Decimal odds express payout per unit stake including stake return. Probability p must lie strictly between 0 and 1.
Worked example
25% chance equals decimal odds of 0.25/0.75 = 1/3 (one win per three losses).
Where this can give the wrong answer
- p = 0 or 1 makes odds undefined at the boundary.
- American moneyline odds need a different conversion.
- Implied probability from book odds includes margin.
